What We’re Reading This Month

AI’s true purpose is freeing up humans to find the biggest problems – What does this mean for the future of human intelligence? I like to think of AI—at least in its current form—as an extension instead of a replacement for human intelligence. Technologies such as AlphaCode cannot think about and design their own problems—one of the key elements of human creativity and innovation—but they are very good problem solvers. They create unique opportunities for very productive cooperation between humans and AI. Humans define the problems, set the rewards or expected outcomes, and the AI helps by finding potential solutions at superhuman speed. Read the full article.

Ukraine Hit with Novel ‘FoxBlade’ Trojan Hours Before Invasion – The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) last week warned that such attacks could spill over Ukraine’s borders. How robots and remote-editing helped photograph the 2022 Winter Olympics The conditions left Getty Images, the official photo agency for the International Olympic Committee, with reduced support teams on the ground. To tackle the challenges, the team tapped into robotic cameras and remote editing.  Getty mounted cameras in robotic rigs that can be controlled remotely. This enabled the agency to capture images from angles that a human photographer can’t access, such as inside ice hockey nets or underneath ski jumps.

What Makes a Company Successful at Using AI? –  Vistra, a major U.S. power producer, had a problem. For its plants to operate efficiently, workers had to continuously monitor hundreds of different indicators, tracking temperatures, pressures, oxygen levels, and pump and fan speeds — and they had to make adjustments in real time. The process involved a huge amount of complexity, and it was too much for even the most skilled operator to get right all the time. To address this challenge, the plant installed an AI-powered tool — a heat-rate optimizer — that analyzed hundreds of inputs and generated recommendations every 30 minutes. Result: a 1% increase in efficiency. That may not sound like much, but it translates into millions in savings as well as lower greenhouse gas emissions.  What Makes A Company Successful at Using AI?Contact us to find out how ARC can work with you in your AI journey.
