This Month: Collaborate on the Core. Compete on the Edges, Behaviors That Make You Socially Magnetic, The Coherence Complex Book, AI and IT Teams Often Clash. But They Don't Have To & More
Welcome to the September edition of ARC Reads! As summer winds down and we head into a busy fall season, it’s a great time to catch up on what’s happening across the technology and business landscape. We’ve gathered this month’s top articles and insights to keep you informed, inspired, and ready for what’s ahead.
Collaborate on the Core. Compete on the Edges - Every summer the Tour de France turns endurance into theater. For three weeks the world watches cyclists traverse mountains, wind swept flats, and chaotic city finishes. If you want to see strategy in motion, watch the peloton. Riders from different teams, direct competitors with different sponsors, leaders, and ambitions, form a dense, fast-moving pack. Inside this temporary, informal alliance, everyone benefits from reduced wind resistance. The front rider does the most work as the riders behind conserve energy. Positions rotate. Over time the group moves faster than any rider could alone. More here.
The 2 Behaviors That Make You Socially Magnetic- A few months ago, I was queuing for free tacos at my coworking space in London. And because nothing unites people like free food, half the building had shown up. This gave me the opportunity to shamelessly eavesdrop on the group of guys in front of me. Three of them stood out. The first talked about himself a lot, jumping in on other people’s stories to tell his own slightly better version of whatever had just been said. His colleagues let him, but their faces had gone politely blank, the look people wear when they’re waiting for something to end. The second was his opposite: warm and pleasant whenever someone spoke to him, but only when someone spoke to him. He gave brief answers, handed the floor straight back, and initiated nothing. Read more.
The Coherence Complex - How to Trust What you Already Know - At ARC Business Solutions, we are fortunate to work alongside people with a wide range of experience, perspectives, and expertise. This month, we’re especially proud to feature one of our own: Bobbi Fergstad Bryksa, Telecom Strategic Advisor with ARC Business Solutions, who has recently published her debut book, The Coherence Complex: How to Trust What You Already Know.
4 Steps to Transform the “Middle Office” with AI - Companies are spending heavily on AI, but many are still struggling to turn that investment into measurable business results. One reason is that they’re overlooking the middle office, where work such as contract review, compliance, risk management, and accounts payable still requires a lot of human judgment. Accenture and Google research suggests this is where some of the biggest near-term opportunities lie. Companies can capture them by finding processes where difficult cases still get handed to experts, building AI systems that learn from those experts as they work, and measuring whether AI actually reduces those escalations. The final step is making sure the time AI saves gets put to good use, freeing experts to focus on complex decisions, relationships, and higher-value work.
AI and IT Teams Often Clash. But They Don’t Have To - In many organizations, IT and AI are bundled together under the vague label of “technology.” Yet the two groups often have fundamentally different perspectives. IT teams seek control, standardization, and risk reduction; AI teams seek experimentation, flexibility and rapid learning. Left unmanaged, these competing priorities can result in the groups unintentionally sabotaging each other’s efforts. Article.
