This Month: Reskilling in the Age of AI, Science of Choice Can Boost Innovation, Arrange Your Schedule for More Energy, Lastest Tech Scams & More!

In this spooky October edition of ARC Reads we continue to share the latest tech and business articles that have piqued our interest.

What We’re Reading This Month

Reskilling in the Age of AI –  To adapt in the years ahead to the rapidly accelerating pace of technological change, companies will have to develop ways to learn—in a systematic, rigorous, experimental, and long-term way—from the many reskilling investments that are being made today. Only then will the reskilling revolution really take off. More here.

How the Science of Choice Can Boost Innovation Ever since the late 1990s, social psychologists have known a surprising truth: If you want to maximize someone’s satisfaction with a choice, don’t give them unlimited options. Instead, you should give them some choice but with clear constraints. This added structure is crucial for picking a desired option with confidence. The article is here.

You are more than your job. These 3 questions can help you figure out who you are outside of work – Somewhat surprisingly, the answers I got to those three questions were fairly consistent across people who had known me for over a decade and those who had known me only a few months. Also notably, they didn’t mention specific industry expertise, but instead identified the mindsets, skills, and settings where they had seen me thrive.

Arrange Your Meeting Schedule to Boost Your Energy – Meetings remain a frequent challenge for most knowledge workers. While common advice and prior research often focuses on making meetings more effective or reducing the time we spend in them, there is another critical aspect rarely taken into account: the way we schedule and arrange our meetings on a daily basis. Scheduling can, however, aid or impede our energy and productivity at work, and thus warrants a closer look.

How scammers use psychology to create some of the most convincing internet cons – and what to watch out for – Online fraud is today’s most common crime. Victims are often told they are foolish for falling for it, but fraudsters use psychological mechanisms to infiltrate the defences of their targets, regardless of how intelligent they are.  So it’s important to keep up with the latest scams and understand how they work.
